Research and Teaching Skills

Languages

Reading knowledge of German and Spanish.

Statistics

Graduate level work in multivariate analysis.

Computing

Created the Political Science Data and Graphics Laboratory at UNCC, a user friendly database of tables and charts containing a wide range of political, social and economic data. This Microsoft Access database contains charts constructed in Microsoft Powerpoint that are based on data contained in Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. I am in the process of constructing a World Wide Web accessible version of this database. Substantial experience with SPSS and other statistical packages on mainframe and personal computers.

I use the Web extensively in my courses. Syllabi, outlines of my lectures; data graphics; and paper topics and examination questions are all available on-line. This material for my most recent courses can be found at my web site. In addition, in some of my courses, students take part in on-line discussion groups.

Field research

Experience in interviewing 40 freshman Representatives for my undergraduate honors thesis and in interviewing Alaskan Natives for a research project on participation in local politics.
